Umbrella Strollers Have Come a Long Way

Posted by admin | Articles | Friday 9 September 2011 10:21 am

Umbrella strollers are so named because they fold up like an umbrella for easy carrying and storage. They are not as sturdy as a large, regular stroller, but can handle almost as much as their larger counterparts. Generally they only hold approximately 50 pounds in weight so older children are not recommended as riders in the umbrella strollers.

Another reason umbrella strollers have earned their name is named because of the hooked shape of the handles – just like the end of an umbrella. This is an easy grip for parents as they push the stroller. Umbrella strollers are made of a lightweight fabric and usually have a single waist strap holding the child inside. There is no storage area like the bigger baby strollers, no cup holders and no room for fancy toy attachments. The umbrella strollers are the bare bones strollers and meant for limited space and shorter trips where you do not need to carry as much gear.

However, umbrella strollers have come a long way since the 1980′s and 1990′s when they were just flimsy strollers that you have on hand incase your child falls asleep and you have nothing else around to put them in. The umbrella strollers of yesteryears did not recline. This meant that if your child fell asleep while you were out and about they were sleeping sitting up or in a semi upright position. Today’s umbrella strollers do have reclining backs and are a little more stable than the older ones.

Manufacturers have even come up with double umbrella strollers, something unheard of just a decade ago. The safety measures have increased as well, giving more thought to the straps by installing one coming up from between the legs and one across the lap area to help keep the child in place in case of a tumble. Also, the wheels are more flexible and able to take more of the uneven pavement and roughness of sidewalks than the older umbrella strollers whose wheels would not all face the same direction at the same time.

Umbrella strollers are great for children up to 50 pounds who don’t want to walk and/or need to rest while you are strolling. They are lightweight and don’t take up as much room as the larger baby strollers. However, what you give up for space, you also give up in comfort. The umbrella strollers are thinner, sometimes just a cardboard backing with a thin layer of quilted padding, unlike the bigger strollers with the thick padding all around. But the umbrella strollers are a lot more comfortable than they were years ago.

The umbrella strollers are easier to close than they were years ago. Today they have one-handed closure mechanisms. Simply press a button or pull a lever and the umbrella stroller folds in half and is as thin as an umbrella ready for backseat or trunk storage. This is another reason parents like the umbrella stroller for quick runs to the store or visiting neighbors or grandparents house.

Umbrella strollers can be purchased online or in stores in a variety of styles, colors, materials and designs. Having an umbrella stroller and a bigger baby stroller is a good idea because there are days you don’t want the hassle of a big stroller and only need the convenience of smaller, more nimble umbrella stroller.

Posted by admin | Articles | Thursday 10 March 2011 4:32 am

Buying used lightweight baby strollers represents a one of a kind money saving possibility for any parent who is looking to save cash whilst purchasing a quality product. Some parents spend hundreds on new strollers that they utilize on a few occasions for a short period of time, leaving an expensive product in high quality condition.

Other parents could profit from their purchase when they find these same parents looking to sell the goods at a significantly decreased price. However, prior to making this investment into your used lightweight baby strollers, it is vital to review the many options which are available to you concerning strollers. If you understand this properly, you would be capable of making a better investment into your child’s safety while still buying a product for your social life.

This stroller is developed to accommodate the needs of the physically active parent that enjoys the outdoor environment whether its for running, jogging, walking or simple pleasures. The baby jogging stroller is designed with large bicycle wheels and a high centered seat on a three wheel frame to create maximum stability with unlimited maneuverability for the parent in motion.

In addition, many quality strollers of this design are supported with a shock absorbing system which assists limit the motion of the kid, ensuring a smooth ride. While the used baby jogging stroller is perfect for the outdoor environment, it is vital to recognize that this product provides no benefits in the indoor environment.

Finally, for the lucky parents who have more than one child, there exists the opportunity of the used double lightweight baby strollers. Many parents with more than one child attempt to utilize a single seat stroller but this is often quickly changed after only a couple of outings. Stroller Bags – Why Many Parents Love Them

Posted by admin | Articles | Tuesday 1 March 2011 10:17 pm

Which Pushchair for Baby?

Posted by admin | Articles | Wednesday 9 February 2011 3:01 pm

One of the first and most important purchases a parent will make for their new child is that of a pram. The sheer number of different types of prams, strollers and travel systems some costing well over a £100 can make for a very confusing time. Pushchairs, sometimes called buggies and strollers, are one of the most popular choices for new parents, these comfortable, lightweight and collapsible models of prams are perfect for use if travelling by public transport or the car. Pushchairs come in an array of different types such as 3-wheeler, flat folding pushchairs, umbrella folding pushchairs and double pushchairs, so making the right choice for your child can be a difficult one. You must ask yourself questions such as: is the pushchair as comfortable for you to push as it is for your baby to sit/lie in? Does it fit in the boot of your car as well as into your lifestyle? Is it suitable for a newborn and does it come with essential extras such as a car seat (travel system)?

Types Of Pushchair

3-Wheeler pushchairs, sometimes referred to as all-terrain, are as at home on rough ground as they are on city streets. These robust yet lightweight highly manoeuvrable pushchairs often come with car seats and carrycots making them one of the more popular choices among parents. Just be sure to check that you have sufficient room in the car or at home when this type of pushchair is folded.

Flat folding pushchairs are robust and usually suitable for new born babies if the seat can recline to a lie-flat position. They tend to be heavier and not as easy to fold down as an umbrella folding model although they are an economical purchase when compared to travel systems.

Umbrella folding pushchairs are usually not suitable for new born babies and are targeted more towards children from six months upwards. They get their name from the way they fold into a tall thin shape much like an umbrella. They are tremendously easy to fold down, usually with only one hand, and are also very easily stored.

Double pushchairs are obviously for two babies/twins, and if fully reclining suitable for new born babies.

Some Baby Myths Exploded

Posted by admin | Articles | Monday 7 February 2011 2:58 pm

No woman approaches motherhood completely confident and there are many concerns that can be a worry as the big day approaches. The truth is that most of these can be easily explained and approached, and a number of popular myths surrounding babies can be quickly dispelled.

Having a baby should be a thing of joy to all new mothers and while some things are obvious worries others can be unnecessarily troublesome. Let’s have a look at a few of the more commonly held myths that go hand in hand with impending motherhood.

1: A baby only cries when it is distressed

This is perhaps the most widely held myth that concerns babies and can easily be explained away: while babies do cry if they are distressed or upset, they also do so for a number of other reasons.

It has to be remembered that crying is the baby’s only audible method of communicating – a bay has yet to develop the power of speech and uses crying as a form of contact in many different instances.

The baby may be telling you that it is hungry, or maybe that it is in need of changing, but the baby may simply be concerned as to the whereabouts of its mother and looking for reassurance that she is nearby. It will not take long for a mother to appreciate different types of cry as meaning different things, and this will come naturally with experience. Before long mother will know when baby is distressed or simply telling her he wants her.

A baby will not cry unnecessarily so if it becomes frequent and out of character it may be worthwhile seeking advice. There are also a number of ebooks and other advice available that explain the situation and offer good tips.

Baby must always be wrapped up when outdoors

Many new mothers are naturally overprotective of their newborn baby, but care must be taken to ensure that a baby is not too hot in warm weather. Wrapping a baby up against the cold is a sensible move but overdoing things in warmer times may cause undue distress to the baby, just as it would for us.

It is wise to make sure baby has a good pram or buggy in which to travel – one with plenty space and comfort and with adequate protection from rain and wind – and that suitable shade is available in sunlight.

It is not, however, necessary for baby to be wrapped up as tightly in winter as in summer – common sense will help make the decision.

Other tips for new mums

Motherhood is a complex time of life and there are many different aspects to be covered – too many, in fact, to be attended to in a short article such as this. However there are numerous books – and in particular a number of very good ebooks – available that will help the new mother to negotiate the minefield that is mother and baby life, and offer some good advice across a variety of different aspects.

There is advice available on babies and sleeping for instance – different babies will have different sleep patterns but all will sleep regularly if helped into a routine at an early age – and there is much to be learnt about how to comfort baby when it is distressed or uncomfortable.

Advice on what to feed to you baby, and more importantly what not to, is readily available in a number of places and is worth reading as there are many different ways of treating baby to a good meal.

Further advice covers how to hold baby – a common fear of mothers to be is that they will drop their child, although this is an extremely rare occurrence – and how to change the diaper with little distress to the child, and much more can be learned from reading all the available material and asking the advice of professionals.

Tips For Buying Amazing Gifts For Your Baby

Posted by admin | Articles | Sunday 23 January 2011 10:16 pm

Babies give us so much.  They provide us with an indescribable thrill almost every day, so it’s only natural that on special occasions like birthdays or christenings, we want to find a special gift for our little one. There are lots of gifts for baby that you can find in different gift shops, starting from simple gifts like soft toys and ranging to hi-tech interactive developmental toys – the choice is enormous.  Whether you are buying for your own child or a friend’s baby you need to choose the right gift based on the age of the baby.

Here are a few things to consider along with a few suggestions to help you find the perfect gift:

You (the parents) – Although it’s tempting to choose the biggest, brightest (noisiest) gift for the baby, spare a thought for the parents.  Will they have room for a gift that size?, will they be able to listen to the sound that toy makes several times a day?  A moment’s thought in this area will mean your gift is well received by both the baby and the parents.

Budget is also another important factor that you need to consider while looking for baby gifts .  Gift prices vary dependent on the type, brand, quality and fashionability of the gift.  It’s easy to get carried away when choosing a baby gift, but you should determine an appropriate budget and try and stick to it.  Don’t feel obliged to spend huge sums of money on the gift, it’s much better to search for something meaningful and age appropriate.

Some of the baby gifts which are very popular are:

Toys: Toys are great all round gifts for baby. Babies are constantly developing and as such, they have inquisitive minds, constantly searching for meaning.  The right toys can tap into this and feed their imagination and stimulate their development.  Some examples of popular gifts are stacking toys, pull along toys (aids co-ordination), dolls, toy stoves, kitchen sets (these all build on imaginative play).  You could also consider cars, animal toys and soft balls.  When choosing toys as a baby gift, be sure to avoid small removable parts as many babies will put these in their mouth, and thus there is a risk of choking.  A well built toy which is age appropriate will negate this risk.

Clothes: Clothes can also be great baby gifts. There’s plenty to choose from: kids shirts, pants, frocks, skirts, caps and lots more. While buying clothes, try to go for soft fabrics which will not cause any discomfort to your little one. Organic Baby Clothes are now becoming more widespread because of the rise in allergies amongst young children.  There is also an increasing amount of designer baby clothes on the market which tend to be very nicely designed and come in a range of styles to suit nearly everyone.

Nursery Gifts – Something for the baby’s room is also a great gift option.  Mobiles which go on the ceiling and create nice patterns as they spin can be very soothing for babies.  Another great baby gift option for the nursery room is a cot activity centre which simply attaches to the babies cot and plays a soothing lullaby, again helping the baby to relax and hopefully sleep!

Personalised Gifts – Providing a personalised present is a great keepsake for a baby gift.  You could make a photo album of the baby’s first experiences or have a puzzle made with his or her’s name as the pieces.  You could also have a room sign made using their name.  A personalised present is a great baby gift option which is sure to be cherished.

Gifts for the Parents – If you’re buying a gift for a newborn or a baby which is on “on the way”, you may want to choose something which the parents will use on the baby’s behalf.  A classic example of this is grandparents buying a present for their children and a popular option in this instance is both getting together to buy a pram. A great option here are Travel system prams. These are all in one prams that allow the baby to go from the pram to the car with ease.  Travel system prams are incredibly popular and a great (if more extravagant) baby gift when bought together with the parents.

You must know the features of pushchairs before buying it for your baby

Posted by admin | Articles | Friday 7 January 2011 12:14 pm

Parenting means forgetting how to define word ‘easy’. After all, you want the best for your baby which includes shopping for prams and pushchairs. Finding cheap prams without compromising on quality can be difficult at brick and mortar stores. However, some of the best online stores now stock all the popular models offered by top manufacturers. Here is a simple guide to features that you should look for when buying prams and pushchairs.

Babies prams and pushchairs come both as twin and single models. The only difference between prams and pushchairs is that in prams the baby faces away from the parent pushing it. In pushchairs the baby gets to face towards the street and away from the parent. The twin or double prams and pushchairs are of two kinds – those with the seats side-by-side and those with one seat in front of the other. The advantage of side-by-side model of prams and pushchairs is that the seats can be adjusted to different seating or reclining levels. However, these models can be a little difficult to move and occupy more space.

When looking for cheap prams and pushchairs you cannot afford to compromise on safety features. Check the kind of locking system you have for the wheels, the suspension strength, swivel wheels and overall sturdiness. Usually a good aluminum frame works well for most pushchairs and prams. A special feature like ventilation at the reclining level is also something to look for if you want increased comfort for your baby.

As a parent interested in taking your baby along to the grocery store or shopping mall you can pick a buggy that has extra compartments or shopping tray. Modern manufacturers keep the modern parent in mind and incorporate pockets in the covers of the prams for goggles, diapers, purse etc also. Some babies prams come with a shopping bag clip too.

Several prams and Pushchairs come with a travel car seat attachment or conversion system. In any case always consider how easily you can fold the buggy even if you do not intend to travel much. Most popular models of prams and pushchairs now come with a one-step fold mechanism and can easily be stowed in the boot of the car.

You definitely have access to a wider range of products while shopping online but ensure that you do so at a secure website only. Another advantage of shopping online is that you have access to discounts, season sales, clearance sales and sometimes, even free shipping across the United Kingdom.

A Guide to Types of Pushchairs

Posted by admin | Articles | Wednesday 10 November 2010 12:22 am

There are many types of pushchairs available on the market – each created for the requirements of baby, mummy and lifestyle. When it comes to pushchairs, it’s vital that you purchase a pushchair or pram that fits perfectly with all your needs as a family.

Baby Travel System

A baby travel system is a kit for your baby, which includes a carrycot, pushchair and car seat or just a pushchair and car seat. Their design makes maneuvering your baby around so much easier and without little disturbance to the young one. Travel systems are usually suitable from 0 months, up to around 12 months and can take up to around 13kg in weight.  They include very similar features to those of a normal pushchair, including wheel suspension, foot rests, shopping trays and adjustable positioning so that baby can lie back in various positions.

Three-in-one Pram and Pushchair Combination

Useful for those who plan to take their baby right through to their toddler years in one pushchair. This model is a carrycot, a pram for newborns and a pushchair for the older child. It allows mummy and daddy to quietly move baby around from carrycot to pram without disturbance to baby. This three in one model has a very traditional look to it and can easily be adjusted accordingly to the baby’s requirements as he or she grows. Other advantages include with this model:

-Better Suspension due to the availability of bigger ‘swivel’ wheels,

-Easy folding system,

-Easy to adjust seat unit that can be totally flat or be moved into facing forwards or backwards, depending on model.

Two-in-one Pram and Pushchair

Suitable for newborns and toddlers, this model transforms from a pram to a pushchair.  It often includes very similar features to the three-in-one model, including adjustable seating, easy folding systems, swivel wheels and washable covers. However, it is intended to cover the needs of a growing child, rather than multiple options of transport, such as the three-in-one or travel system.
